Background
Started by Alisa Smith and J.B MacKinnon in Canada in 2005, they only ate food that was produced within a 100 mile radius. Smith and MacKinnon struggled at first with finding local ingredients because of the large amount of processed, imported foods found in supermarkets. Due to the unavailability of local foods, both Smith and MacKinnon lost 15 pounds in the first six weeks of starting this diet. Soon, both learned to shop at famers markets, but admit that this isn't the type of lifestyle for extremely busy people.
